Abstract
This study aims to identify the relationship between nursing students¡¯ communicative competency and clinical competency, and in particular, to determine the mediating effect of self-efficacy. A total of 199 nursing students three universities in Korea completed surveys between May and June 2023. The measurements included the health communication assesment tool, clinical competency scales, and self-efficacy scales. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, scheffe test, pearson¡¯s correlation coefficient, and multiple regression following the Baron and Kenny method, and bootstrapping for mediation. As a result of the study, Clinical competency was significantly positively correlated with communicative competency (r=0.50, p<0.001) and Self-efficacy (r=0.63, p<0.001). Furthermore, Self-efficacy had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between communicative competency and clinical competency. The findings of this study suggest that clinical competency can be improved if individual characteristics such as communicative competency and self-efficacy are considered.
